I have been a die-hard fan of TED ever since I saw one of the talks. One of the most informative, jaw-dropping and visually captivating is the one by Hans Rosling on Debunking the myths on...
Watch it to believe me...
Now TED has a blog in which, Hans Rosling, in one of his interviews shares this little secret. Here is the link of the complete interview.
"In fact, I have the secret to how to get the best help immediately from any customer service, like the phone company or the bank or anything. I have the best line, it always works. You want to know what it is? When I call, I say, “Hello. I am Hans Rosling and I have made a mistake.” People immediately want to help you when you put it this way. You get much more when you don’t offend people."
This is so true. Even though this is just a feel good factor, I'm sure, it will work. Next time around when I call up some customer care, I will try this out.
On a side note, after years of speaking to customer care execs. located somewhere in India with fake US accents, I landed up speaking to someone who is actually an American situated in the US who helped me postpone my flight tickets. Expedia strangely does not allow you to do this online, but a pleasant change nevertheless.
